IFSAC Fire Officer II

This course is designed for the Fire Officer who is ready to assume more of a leadership role by moving into the middle-management level of his/her department. This course expands on the knowledge-base attained in Fire Officer I and also adds additional material including Management, Government Structure, and Departmental Budget Planning and Management. This course is based on the content of NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.  This class will be student-centered learning with group assignments for class presentation and skill sheet assignments.

Class participants must possess IFSAC Accredited Fire Officer I certification prior to the start of the class.

Students will need a laptop computer (in-person classes) or a laptop or desktop computer with working internet access (virtual platform classes). Computers must have working camera and student must be present on video the duration of the class.

All class participants will need to obtain an IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer 6th Edition textbook prior to the class starting. Reading assignments and quizzes will be assigned for completion prior to the start of class. It is highly encouraged that the students also purchase the study guide that goes along with the textbook.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Written testing may be available on the final day of class (select classes), or this may be scheduled through a SFRT district office location. Candidates will submit a completed application to the Kentucky Fire Commission, and remit the prescribed written test sitting fee of $50, payable by fire department check or money order when taking the written exam.  The skill portion of the evaluation will consist of a portfolio that will be explained in class and submitted at a later date.

The Fire Commission welcomes students from outside of Kentucky to participate in the IFSAC Fire Officer class series. Note that priority is given to in-state firefighters. Written testing must be completed in Kentucky and accredited certification pre-requisites must be met.
