Cancer Screening Reimbursement Program
Cancer is a leading cause of death in the fire service; cancer risks increase considerably for every firefighter. Early detection has had a significant impact on helping prevent and reverse potential future cancer events.
As a result of continued commitment to the health and wellness of the Commonwealth's firefighters, the Kentucky Fire Commission is pleased to offer a program reimbursing firefighters for the cost of approved firefighter cancer screenings, up to $325.00.
This program is further outlined in KRS 95A.262.
To qualify for reimbursement, participants must meet the following parameters:
- Participate in a United Diagnostic Services (UDS) cancer screening approved by the Kentucky Fire Commission; individuals not participating in a UDS screening must receive prior approval from the Kentucky Fire Commission before completing the screening in order to be eligible for reimbursement
- Be a Kentucky-certified firefighter
- Be an active member on a Kentucky fire department roster for at least three (3) years -or- retired for ten (10) years or less
- Provide complete and required documentation to the Kentucky Fire Commission
Note: a qualifying firefighter may only seek reimbursement once every three (3) years.
To expedite reimbursement processing, once an appointment is scheduled and confirmed, participants are requested to complete the Cancer Screening Program cover sheet and KCTCS Substitute W-9 form and email all to: fccancer@kctcs.edu.
Upon completion of the screening by UDS Diagnostic Services, the participant is required to email a copy of their paid and itemized UDS invoice to fccancer@kctcs.edu. This will serve as proof of the screening for reimbursement to be made.
Questions regarding the Cancer Screening Reimbursement Program should be directed via email to fccancer@kctcs.edu or via telephone at (859) 256-3575.
